Alli Vows Rural Development, Integrity as He Declares Readiness for Oyo Central Senate Seat

A senatorial aspirant for Oyo Central Senatorial District, Alhaji Dr. Ademola Wasiu Alli, has pledged to prioritise rural development, effective lawmaking, and transparent representation if elected into the National Assembly.
Speaking during a “Hot Seat” interactive session with journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Saturday, Alli outlined his legislative agenda, political philosophy, and readiness to serve, drawing from over three decades of experience within the federal civil service.
The aspirant, who described himself as a grassroots politician with deep ties to rural communities, emphasised that his ambition is driven by a desire to bridge developmental gaps affecting underserved areas in Oyo Central.
According to him, the core responsibilities of a senator are lawmaking, oversight, and constituency lobbying which require both experience and influence, qualities he believes he possesses.
“The role of a senator is to make laws for good governance, ensure proper implementation of government projects through oversight, and use political influence to attract development to their constituencies. These are challenges I am prepared for,” he said.
Alli noted that his upbringing and long-standing engagement with rural communities have given him firsthand understanding of the needs of the people, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, and youth empowerment.
“I have lived among the people and I understand their needs. I can represent them effectively and ensure that rural environments are not left behind in national development,” he added.
The aspirant also defended his decision to pursue a legislative role despite his extensive background in the executive arm of government, explaining that the legislature offers broader opportunities to influence national policies.
“As a legislator, you are not limited to a single sector. You can address issues across board like agriculture, infrastructure, youth development through lawmaking and advocacy. That is the kind of impact I want to make,” he stated.
On concerns about political integrity and trust, Alli acknowledged widespread scepticism among Nigerians but maintained that his track record and longstanding community engagements set him apart.
“Integrity is built over time. People should look at antecedents. The little things we have consistently done through our foundation and engagements speak for us,” he said.
Addressing questions on campaign financing, the senatorial hopeful stressed the importance of goodwill and grassroots support, noting that financial resources alone do not guarantee electoral success.
“Goodwill is a major asset. With the support of the people and faith in God, even limited resources can achieve great results,” he said, adding that he maintains strong relationships within his political party.
On the issue of political godfatherism, Alli acknowledged the influence of party leaders but framed it within the context of mentorship and collective leadership.
“God is the ultimate Godfather, but we also have leaders in the party whom we respect. Leadership is about collaboration, not imposition,” he explained.
Highlighting the challenges facing Oyo Central, Alli identified inadequate infrastructure, unemployment, and rural-urban migration as key issues requiring urgent attention.
He proposed increased investment in agricultural extension services, youth skills development, and policies that encourage private sector participation in job creation.
“We need to empower our farmers, create opportunities for our youths, and ensure that development is not concentrated only in urban centres,” he said.
The aspirant further assured that he would leverage his experience within government institutions to attract federal projects and hold agencies accountable.
