"Stop Wasting Your Votes"—Samson Fatola Warns PDP Electorate Ahead Of 2027 go
As the battle for the control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) enters a decisive legal phase, a prominent media professional and seasoned political aspirant, Samson Opeyemi Fatola, has issued a stark warning to the party’s electorate, urging them to align with the legally recognized structure to avoid "wasted mandates" in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Ibadan on Friday, Fatola, who brings over a decade of political experience to the race, declared his unwavering allegiance to the Mohammed/Wike-led National Working Committee (NWC). He described his stance as a commitment to "party supremacy" and institutional stability, warning that any alignment with parallel structures is an invitation to electoral disaster.
Fatola drew a sharp line between the National Convention held in Abuja on March 29–30, 2026—which produced the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led leadership—and the parallel gathering in Ibadan. He dismissed the latter as a sectional assembly of a "minority few" that lacks the national and legal legitimacy to pilot the affairs of the party.
"Any right-thinking member of the PDP does not need a rocket scientist or a soothsayer to know where the party is truly and rightly positioned," Fatola stated. "The Abuja Convention is the definitive turning point for our party’s future. Following the legally recognized structure is not just about politics; it is about ensuring that the efforts of our voters are not nullified by the courts."
The aspirant emphasized that the primary concern for any serious candidate in 2027 must be the legality of their platform. He noted that the history of Nigerian politics is replete with instances where popular votes were rendered useless because the candidates emerged from unrecognized party factions.
"Voters will determine the fate of everyone aspiring for elective posts in 2027," he added. "I am sticking with the Mohammed/Wike-led PDP because it is the only platform that guarantees their votes won't be wasted in a contested primary. We must be 'Team Players' for the institution of the party and for Nigeria, not just 'Person's Players' serving sectional interests."
Reflecting on his decade-long political journey, Fatola maintained that his decision to back the current NWC was the result of a "keen and painstaking" observation of the party’s trajectory. He argued that institutional stability is the only way the PDP can present a formidable challenge in the next electoral cycle.
"I make bold to say that I will be running under the platform of the legally backed PDP," Fatola concluded. "Power belongs to the people, but that power can only be exercised effectively through a stable and legally sound institution. We must protect the party from fragmenting into sectional groups if we are to win the trust of Nigerians again."
As Fatola ramps up his grassroots mobilization, his message to the PDP faithful remains clear: the path to 2027 must be paved with legal certainty, or the opposition risks being sidelined before the first ballot is even cast.
