Monarchs, Other Dignitaries Gather to Honour Obiyinka as Ooni of Ife Installs Him Otun of The Source

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, will install socialite and successful business man, Dr. (Chief) Sunday Omoniyi Obiyinka, as the Otun of The Source, a prestigious title in Ile Ife, in a ceremony to be attended by monarchs, celebrities, business stakeholders, important dignitaries, and other prominent figures.

This honour according to a letter from the Palace of the Ooni recognizes Obiyinka's examplary leadership and Pan African vision,  steadfast commitments to  the advancement of peace, democracy and continental unity. 

The letter also celebrates his good life of selfless humanitarian services which has been an inspiration to generations across Africa thus the need to honour him as the Otun of the Source.


Chief Sunday Omoniyi Obiyinka, PhD, mni, a world bank accredited publisher, is the Managing Director of Extension Publications Limited. He was born on 4th January 1970. After his primary education, he attended Onireke Grammar School, Ibadan, where he sat for his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in 1987.

 Thereafter, he proceeded to the University of Ilorin where he obtained Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry/Education in 1992. 

His one-year compulsory national youth service scheme took him to Delta State in 1993. In pursuit of his quest for further education, he obtained a Master’s degree in Publishing and Copyright Studies at the University of Ibadan. He is a member of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, fellow Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration (FCPA) and fellow Istanbul Publishing Institute. He had his doctorate in Publishing and Copyright Studies also at the University of Ibadan and became the first PhD holder in Publishing and Copyright Studies in Nigeria.

His career as a publisher started when he took appointment with Onibonoje Publishers and Book Industries (Nig.) Ltd; where he served between 1996 and 2001. 

Sunday Obiyinka, having served in a publishing outfit, took interest in the industry which informed the establishment of Extension Publications Limited in 2004. The company has gained wide acceptance with offices in all the states of Nigeria and the West African sub-region. 

The top-notch quality of the company’s publications informed the consistent adoption of some of their books by major examining bodies such as WAEC and NECO as set texts for terminal examinations, leading to the admission and consequent production of reputable professionals across diverse disciplines who continue to impact various sectors of the economy.    

He has endowed a prize for the best graduating student in Master’s degree in Publishing and Copyright Studies, University of Ibadan. Similarly, he extended the same gesture to the Chemistry Education Department, University of Ilorin, where he gives an annual scholarship to the best graduating student.  

As a leading voice in educational publishing, at both national and international levels, Sunday Omoniyi Obiyinka holds membership of various professional bodies – Nigerian Publishers Association (NPA), African Publishers Network (APNET), World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), International Publishers Association (IPA), among many others. He is also an alumnus of New York University and London School of Economics. Similarly, he is a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD).  

In recognition of his immense contribution to both cultural and national values, he was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Jagun Agba-Oye of Ibadan by His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1.

He is a regular participant at various book fairs at the national and international levels, among which are London Book Fair, Book Expo America, Capetown Book Fair, Ghana Book Fair, Frankfurt Book Fair, India Book Fair amongst others.

Sunday Obiyinka’s flair for service and leadership has inspired him to birth other companies in the hospitality, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, printing, construction, and supplies industries. He is equally into export and import activities. Sunday Obiyinka is a philanthropist per excellence.

Chief Sunday Omoniyi Obiyinka’s hobbies include travelling, table tennis and networking. He is happily married and blessed with children.

Chief Sunday Omoniyi Obiyinka installation as Otun of the Source is scheduled to hold on the 4th of January 2026 at Ancient Ile Oodua Palace, Enuwa Square, Ile Ife  while reception follows immediately at  Ojaja Event Center, Ojaja Arena, Km 4, Ife - Ibadan Express Way, Ile Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. Dress code is all white.
