Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information Apreel1news collects, why we collect it and what you can do about it. It applies to apreel1news.com.
Who we are
Apreel1news is an independent Nigerian news website. We are the data controller for the personal information described here. Questions, requests and complaints: apreel1events@gmail.com .
In short
We collect as little as we can, we do not sell your personal information, and we use it only to run the site, to reply to you and to fund our journalism with advertising.
What we collect
- What you give us: your email address and message when you contact the newsroom or subscribe to our newsletter; and your name, email address and comment when you comment on a story.
- What is collected automatically: your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you view, the site that referred you and the time of your visit, together with cookies and similar technologies used to make the site work, to measure readership and to display advertising.
- What we receive from partners: measurement and advertising information from the services described below.
Why we use it
- To publish and operate this website
- To reply to your emails, handle news tips and deal with corrections
- To send the newsletter you asked for
- To understand which stories readers value
- To display advertising, which pays for our journalism
- To detect spam, abuse and security problems
- To meet our legal obligations under Nigerian law
Cookies and advertising
Advertising on this site is served in part by Google and its partners through Google AdSense. Google uses cookies, including its advertising and DoubleClick cookies, to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Those cookies are set by Google rather than by us, and Google's own privacy policy governs how it uses them.
- You can turn off personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings at google.com/settings/ads .
- You can opt out of personalised advertising from many third-party vendors at aboutads.info/choices and youronlinechoices.eu .
- You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. Some parts of the site may then work less well.
We also use Google's measurement tools to understand visits, and a cookie consent tool to record your choices and to tell our advertising and measurement tags what you have agreed to. The choices you make there are respected on this site.
Newsletter
If you subscribe, we store your email address and use it only to send you our updates. Every email includes a way to unsubscribe, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
How long we keep it
- Newsroom emails: as long as needed to deal with the matter, and up to twelve months afterwards
- Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe
- Comments: while the story remains published
- Technical and server logs: a short period, for security and troubleshooting
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the service providers who help us run this site - hosting, email delivery, and measurement and advertising partners including Google - and with professional advisers where necessary, or with authorities where the law requires it. We do not sell your personal information.
Your rights
Under Nigeria's Data Protection Act 2023 you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable form. Where we rely on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email apreel1events@gmail.com . We aim to respond within 30 days and may ask you to confirm your identity first. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Children
This website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Where your information is stored
Some of our service providers store data outside Nigeria, including in the United States and the European Union. Where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards, including those providers' standard contractual clauses.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the date below. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
