"Throwback time! 📺 On October 31, 1959, Nigeria launched WNTV (Western Nigeria Television) in Ibadan, making it the first TV station in Africa. Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the Western Region Premier, wanted to educate and inform the people, so he didn't wait for the British – he went for it!

WNTV was a game-changer:

- "First in Africa" was their motto, and Ibadan became the media hub of the black world 🌍

- Education was key; they broadcast programs to schools across the region 📚

- They built a powerful transmitter on Mapo Hill, reaching as far as Lagos 📡

In 1959, Nigeria was ahead of the curve. We led the way, from the first TV station to the first stadium (Liberty Stadium). We were the tech trailblazers! 🚀

Fast forward to 2026, with our streaming apps and digital stations – let's give it up for the Ibadan pioneers who showed Nigeria can be #1 🎯!

Do you remember WNTV's "First in Africa" slogan? 😄 Share your thoughts! And for the young guns: Did you know Nigeria had TV 17 years before South Africa? Let's talk about our 'Firsts'!
