NIN Agents Decry Unpaid Commissions, Loan Recovery Harassment, Seek Federal Intervention

By Seyifunmi Odunuga

NIN agents are crying foul over unpaid commissions and loan harassment. Over 300 agents in Ibadan, Oyo State, claim they've not been paid commissions since 2021, despite meeting targets. They were promised $1 per successful enrolment but got stuck with loans from NIRSAL Microfinance Bank, which they're struggling to repay.

The agents say the bank is aggressively recovering loans, deducting from their accounts and even relatives' accounts. They're calling for the government to intervene, suspend loan recoveries, and cancel the loans. They claim the situation is unfair and contradicts the objectives of the AGSMEIS scheme, meant to support small businesses. What's your take?
