PDP REMAINS NIGERIA’S MOST CREDIBLE ALTERNATIVE DESPITE CHALLENGES — PARTY STALWARTS
By Seyifunmi Odunuga
Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared that the party remains the most credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that its historical resilience will ensure it survives its current internal crises.
The party faithful, in a move to galvanize the grassroots ahead of the next general elections, dismissed narratives suggesting the PDP is on the verge of extinction. They argued that the party has faced similar existential threats in the past and has consistently emerged stronger due to its deep-rooted structures across the federation.
According to party leaders, the PDP’s credibility is anchored on its unique consistency as the only political organization to maintain its identity, name, and logo since the return of democracy in 1998.
They further maintained that the party holds the distinction of being the original architect of Nigeria’s modern institutional and policy frameworks, describing the PDP as a "mega party" by every definition that is far too large to be dismantled by temporary setbacks.
Addressing the specific political situation in Oyo State, a strong call was made for a return to the principle of "Party Supremacy."
Members in the state were urged to align strictly with the legitimate leadership structures as defined by the party’s constitution and various court pronouncements.
The stakeholders emphasized that for the party to reclaim its dominance, members must prioritize the collective soul of the party over individual ambitions.
The statement noted that the party’s ability to spring major surprises in the upcoming general elections will depend largely on whether current reconciliation efforts can match the passion of members committed to party unity.
Insisting that the future of the PDP is brighter than its past, the "PDP-blooded" loyalists vowed to continue the fight for the party's core values, positioning it as the only viable platform to challenge the status quo.
