RE: STRONG REJECTION OF AYODELE FAYOSE'S BASELESS ALLEGATION AGAINST THE OYO STATE GOVERNOR AND CALL FOR RESPECT AND PEACE

We, the concerned citizens of Ibadan, write with profound disappointment and grave concern over the recent reckless and unfounded allegation made by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose. His claim that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is plotting to remove His Imperial Majesty, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba (Senator) Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, is not only baseless but also a dangerous attempt to sow discord between a father and his son, thereby creating unrest within our peaceful community in the name of politics.

It is deeply disheartening that a once-respected political figure like former governor Fayose has chosen to reduce himself to a public nuisance, presenting himself as lazy and politically irrelevant through such irresponsible posturing. His continuous engagement in unsubstantiated attacks and malicious narratives portrays a man who has been diminished to an unknown quantity, desperately seeking attention through divisive antics rather than constructive leadership or meaningful contribution.

The allegation is not only illegal but also an affront to the dignity of the governor and his highly respected father, as well as the Olubadan institution and the people of Ibadan. The Olubadan was duly represented by his proxy at the recent installation of chiefs, in strict adherence to long-standing tradition and protocol. To suggest otherwise is to deliberately distort facts and incite unnecessary tension between the government and our revered traditional rulers.

Furthermore, it is inappropriate and disrespectful for a political figure who is neither an indigene of Ibadan nor Oyo State to meddle in the affairs of our community with such reckless political theatrics. We urge former Governor Fayose to confine his political activities and criticisms to his native Ekiti State, where his influence and mandate rightfully belong, rather than destabilizing other states with baseless claims.

Ibadan is a city known for its rich cultural heritage, unity, and relative peace. We will not allow the selfish political ambitions of an outsider to disrupt the harmony and welfare that generations of Ibadan indigenes have worked hard to build and maintain.

We call on all political actors, citizens, and stakeholders to reject such divisive politics and to uphold respect for our traditional institutions and leaders. We must collectively prioritize peace, stability, and progress over petty political squabbles.

Let this statement serve as a strong warning to anyone who seeks to use falsehoods and inflammatory rhetoric to destabilize Ibadan and Oyo State. The people of Ibadan will not tolerate attempts to undermine our peace and unity. Any further irresponsible actions or statements that threaten the harmony of our community will be met with firm and decisive resistance from all well-meaning citizens and relevant authorities.
