Oluwadamilare flags off campaign for Oyo Veteran Journalists’ chairmanship, promises health insurance, welfare package

A former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, Mr Victor Oluwadamilare, has officially flagged off his campaign for the chairmanship of the League of Veteran Journalists (LVJ), Oyo State Chapter, with a pledge to prioritise the health and total wellness of members.

Oluwadamilare, a former Special Assistant on Media to a former Minister of Communications, unveiled his roadmap, code-named "MISSION 2026," on Thursday in Ibadan, describing it as a movement born out of resilience and a readiness to serve the senior citizens of the pen profession better.

Speaking during the declaration, the veteran unionist noted that the League, which serves as a bastion for retired senior journalists and media managers, possesses immense potential that can only be unlocked through contemporary leadership focused on inclusivity and sustainable development.

"The League, which is populated by senior citizens, deserves a new leadership with clarity and purpose. What we are bringing to the table are refreshing sustainable development, improved welfare and inclusive administration,"

Oluwadamilare stated.

He further cautioned members of the League against "moral distancing" during the electoral process, warning that staying aloof at a critical time could leave a precarious vacuum in the leadership of the association.

Highlighting his welfare agenda, the chairmanship aspirant promised to implement a Comprehensive Support Package if elected. The proposed intervention includes the establishment of an annual basic medical check-up for all members, the introduction of a health insurance scheme, and the provision of a "Drug Bank" to ease the burden of healthcare for retired journalists.

Oluwadamilare, described by colleagues as a dogged unionist, maintained that his mission is about choosing dynamism and competence to ensure a future that works for every member of the League.
