The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is mobilising for a high-stakes solidarity walk on Wednesday, June 17, 2027, to commemorate the 18th anniversary of the passing of the late political patriarch, Alhaji Lamidi Ariyibi Adedibu.
The event, which is being spearheaded by the party’s 2027 gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi, is set to be a significant display of political muscle as the party looks to consolidate its base ahead of the general elections.
Alhaji Gbolarumi, a former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, has emerged as a central figure in the party’s ongoing efforts to reclaim its political dominance. His leadership of this procession is being interpreted by observers as a strategic move to rally followers of the late "Strongman of Ibadan Politics" and unify the party’s factions under his governorship ticket.
Speaking on the objective of the rally, the Secretary of the Oyo PDP Planning and Strategy Committee, Hon. Rotimi Ajumobi, emphasised that the walk serves as a public declaration of the PDP's enduring legacy.
"Baba was a PDP man to the core until his last breath, and we are using this to proclaim that his political school is still very much alive," Ajumobi stated.
The procession is scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m. from the University of Ibadan (U.I.) gate, moving in a grand convoy to the late patriarch’s iconic residence in Molete. To signal unity and solidarity, organisers have issued a directive for participants from all 33 local government areas to appear in all-white attire.
Party insiders confirmed that the event has received the endorsement of key stakeholders, with high-profile traditional leaders, including the Olubadan of Ibadanland, expected to be in attendance to honour the late political icon.
