PDP National Assembly Primaries: Defeated aspirants storm Abuja as Appeals Panel begins screening petitions

Ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 general elections, the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja has become a beehive of political activity as the National Electoral Appeals Committee officially commenced sitting on Monday, June 8, 2026.

The high-powered committee was constituted by the party's leadership to review a flood of petitions and appeals arising from the recently concluded States and National Assemblies primary elections across the country.

Apreel news gathered that aggrieved aspirants and key stakeholders have submitted formal petitions seeking redress over the outcome of the nominations, putting the party's internal dispute resolution mechanisms to a crucial test.

Insiders within the Wadata Plaza national headquarters revealed that the committee is under strict mandates to meticulously examine every submission in accordance with the provisions of the PDP Constitution and approved electoral guidelines to prevent a post-primary crisis that could jeopardize the party's chances in 2027.

Speaking to journalists at the venue, members of the committee, who chose to remain anonymous as they were not authorized to speak on ongoing deliberations, reiterated their unalloyed commitment to due process. They emphasized that ensuring every appeal receives careful consideration is non-negotiable for strengthening confidence in the party’s internal democratic processes.

The ongoing sitting underscores the opposition party's determination to uphold justice, equity, and accountability as it fine-tunes its strategy to reclaim power at the center.

Despite the underlying tension characteristic of such panels, several party stakeholders have expressed optimism that the committee’s intervention will ultimately consolidate unity, heal wounds from the primaries, and reinforce the credibility of the party’s nomination process.

The National Electoral Appeals Committee is expected to conclude its assignment and submit its final recommendations to the National Working Committee (NWC) after thoroughly reviewing all petitions submitted within the stipulated timeframe.
