2027: Why Hazeem Gbolarumi Should Be Oyo’s Next Governor

As political activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election gather momentum in Oyo State, supporters of former Deputy Governor, Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi, have intensified their campaign for his emergence as the next governor of the state.

Gbolarumi, a prominent Ibadan politician, is being projected as a candidate with the grassroots connection, political experience and understanding of Oyo State’s political terrain required to lead the state.

His supporters argue that what distinguishes him is his long-standing connection with the people and his understanding of the challenges confronting ordinary residents. They describe him as a humble and accessible politician who has remained deeply connected to grassroots politics.

Gbolarumi is also regarded by his supporters as one of the trusted figures associated with the late Chief Lamidi Adedibu’s political structure. A graduate of Law from the University of Ibadan, Gbolarumi has also built a career in private business while maintaining an active presence in politics. Although his tenure as deputy governor lasted about 11 months, his supporters maintain that the experience should not be measured solely by its duration, arguing that his years of political involvement have given him a broader understanding of governance and public affairs.

They further contend that his knowledge of Ibadan politics and relationships across different parts of Oyo State could prove crucial in a governorship contest where grassroots mobilisation and political alliances are expected to play significant roles.

As the race towards 2027 gradually takes shape, Gbolarumi’s supporters are urging political stakeholders and residents of the state to consider his experience, professional background, grassroots appeal and understanding of the state’s political landscape.

They believe Oyo State requires a governor who understands the people and the realities of governance, insisting that Gbolarumi possesses the political experience and grassroots network to provide such leadership.

With political consultations and alignments expected to intensify ahead of the election, his supporters are calling on the people of Oyo State to support his ambition, describing him as a politician who, in their view, has the experience and capacity to lead the state.
