Democracy Day: Tesojue pays tribute to heroes, promises quality representation
By Seyifunmi Odunuga
The Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the Ibadan Southwest/Ibadan Northwest Federal Constituency, Opeyemi Fatola, popularly known as "Tesojue," has urged Nigerians to reflect on the sacrifices made by the nation’s democratic heroes as the country marks 27 years of uninterrupted civilian rule.
In a statement issued in Ibadan to commemorate the June 12 Democracy Day, Fatola underscored the need for leaders to prioritize the welfare of the citizenry, describing democracy as a sacred mandate that must be sustained through purposeful and inclusive governance.
The aspirant, who is seeking to represent his constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, noted that the true value of the democratic struggle is best realized when government policies directly touch the lives of the vulnerable, market women, and the youth.
"Democracy is not just about the freedom to vote; it is fundamentally about the freedom to live in prosperity and dignity," Fatola stated. "The heroes who fought for this day did so with a vision of a nation where every citizen has a voice. As I seek the mandate of the people of Ibadan Southwest and Ibadan Northwest, my commitment is to ensure that their interests are not just represented, but are the heartbeat of my legislative agenda."
Lamenting the growing disconnect between the electorate and their representatives, Fatola promised to institutionalize an open-door policy and a consistent feedback mechanism if elected.
He argued that the current political climate demands a departure from self-serving leadership, advocating instead for a model rooted in transparency and grassroots engagement.
Fatola’s vision, which focuses on sustainable youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and economic intervention for local businesses, has gained traction among voters who are increasingly calling for fresh perspectives in the National Assembly.
While charging the electorate to remain active and vigilant in the democratic process, the PDP candidate pledged to serve as a bridge between the aspirations of his constituents and federal intervention. He maintained that his legislative career would be defined by integrity, accountability, and an unwavering dedication to the collective progress of his constituency.
