As Nigeria commemorates its 27th anniversary of uninterrupted democratic rule, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for Oyo State, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi, has paid glowing tribute to the heroes of the nation’s democratic struggle, urging citizens to embrace unity as a catalyst for collective progress.

In a message released to mark the June 12 Democracy Day celebrations, Gbolarumi reflected on the significance of the date, describing it as a defining moment in Nigeria’s history that must continue to serve as a compass for the nation’s political and social aspirations.

The former Deputy Governor of Oyo State lauded the resilience of Nigerians in sustaining democratic institutions, emphasizing that the sacrifices made by patriots in the past laid the essential foundation for the freedoms currently enjoyed. He stressed that honoring these heroes goes beyond ceremonial activities, requiring a deliberate commitment from both leaders and the led to foster a more inclusive and prosperous nation.

Central to his message was a stern call for the government to prioritize the fundamental rights of the citizenry, particularly the right to live without fear. Gbolarumi identified security as the bedrock of any meaningful development, arguing that democracy loses its core value if citizens cannot go about their daily lives, business, and agricultural pursuits in a safe and secure environment.

"True freedom is anchored in the peace of mind of our people," Gbolarumi stated. "The dividends of democracy must be felt in every corner of our state, ensuring that the lives and property of our residents are protected. Security is not just a policy—it is the prerequisite for all economic prosperity."

As political permutations begin to intensify ahead of the next election cycle, the PDP gubernatorial flagbearer called on all political actors and residents of Oyo State to set aside partisan differences in the interest of peace. He emphasized that the common goal of building a stable and thriving society must take precedence over political competition.

Gbolarumi, who has been actively engaging with grassroots stakeholders, reiterated his commitment to a governance model that places human development, security, and infrastructure at the heart of state administration. He concluded by challenging the government to move from rhetoric to tangible action, delivering the dividends that will translate into lasting safety and improved quality of life for every citizen of Oyo State.
